Assemblymember Quirk Honors Abode as Nonprofit of the Year

Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) has honored Abode as the 20th Assembly District’s "2019 Nonprofit of the Year." Louis Chicoine, Abode’s chief executive officer, joined Assemblymember Quirk at the State Capitol in Sacramento for a celebratory lunch and ceremony organized by the California Association of Non-Profits.

Abode was founded in Alameda County in 1989 when a small group of people came together to address the growing problem of family homelessness in the Tri-City area. Since then, Abode has expanded its reach throughout the Bay Area, serving more than 8,000 adults and children each year.

"I am proud to recognize Abode for the tremendous work they do year-round to end homelessness in our communities,” Assemblymember Quirk said. "The need to house vulnerable children and adults has never been greater than today. The high cost of living and lack of affordable housing in the Bay Area has pushed many people into homelessness."

"Abode is very honored to be selected by Assemblymember Bill Quirk as the Nonprofit of the Year for its work to end homelessness," Chicoine said. "We look forward to continuing our work with Assemblymember Quirk to address the growing problem of homelessness in our community."

Since 2010, Abode has placed more than 10,000 individuals into permanent housing under the Housing First approach. Adobe’s permanent housing and supportive services programs offer individualized service plans that address the needs and goals of individuals and families experiencing homelessness while promoting their independence and success in housing.

"For 30 years, Abode has housed thousands of children and families and connected them with critical wraparound services that changed their lives for the better — for good," Quirk said.
